Can you unlearn what you’ve already learned?

Well, you better- because everything, from finding a new job to how employers hire and provide employment, just got flipped on its head with the release of Chat GPT. Now, with thousands of other startup companies using Artificial Intelligence to do things most people never thought would be possible, everything has changed.

Change isn’t coming, it’s already here. Let me give you a few examples:

I just built a website using one sentence to describe what I wanted, and it came out pretty good.

I uploaded a video and within minutes had social media clips ready to roll in nicely designed templates without having to edit.

I shared what I was thinking out loud, transcribed it, and loaded it into an app that spit out an E-Book, blog post, and chapter to a new book.

I would have paid thousands of dollars for all these assets in the past. I’m sad to say that when it comes to websites, I’ve spent so much it would make your stomach turn, and they still never turned out great. These capabilities and so many others are now available and would have been unthinkable not so long ago.

With the release of Chat GPT and all of the other players now racing to be the best of the best, it’s absolutely mind-blowing what companies, entrepreneurs, and now individuals can do.

Never before has so much power been in the hands of so many people.

Think about this.

Imagine a 30-year-old marketing specialist with 10 years experience who makes 100,000 dollars a year. Many of their skills just became obsolete overnight with the release of new AI tools. Compare that person to a recent college graduate who loves technology and has been mastering some of the newly released tools while searching for a marketing job.

Now imagine if you’re the employer paying your marketing specialist 100k and you meet this young college grad who shows you on their phone work they created that runs circles around your employee. The light goes off in your head that you can hire this young professional for half the cost you’re paying right now. What would you do?

An even crazier thought is that you can possibly find someone on Fiverr to do what you need for a couple bucks.

I recently jumped into the game myself. Right now, my partner at [re]start is building our Career Development App that helps people find a job they’ll love and A.I. is already integrated and becoming the heart and soul of our service.

I was just thinking about how much recently changed and my head started to spin. I sold my business in October 2022 after 25 years and I can tell you that without a doubt if I was in business for another month and would have seen Chat GPT, my staff of close to 100 people would not have been happy. I would have started making changes immediately and there are a lot of people that would most likely be impacted.

What’s incredible is how many people have no clue what’s coming. AI has already started changing things and yet so many people still have never heard about it. How can that be? It’s been all over the media and everyone is connected 24/7. I guess people only see what they want to see.

My call to everyone is WAKE UP. We have never seen changes like this impact the world of work the way AI has already started to enhance what almost every company already does. Again, these changes are not coming- they’re already here- and they may even be coming for your job.

You have to embrace unlearning what you’ve learned in the past and look forward as this new expression quickly unfolds.
